Voot Select will present the sci-fi series “Halo”



NEW DELHI : Voot Select, the video streaming service owned by Viacom18 Media Pvt Ltd, will stream Halo, based on a sci-fi video game of the same name, starting March 24. The show features Pablo Schreiber of Orange is the new black fame, Natascha McElhone, Jen Taylor in addition to Shabana Azmi in a supporting role.

“Halo defined the start of gaming culture in India and has a cult following across the world. With Shabana Azmi leading a key role in the series, the show is even more special for Indian audiences. Having a series based on this legendary title will be looked forward to not only by gamers, but also by sci-fi fanatics,” said Ferzad Palia, Manager – SVoD (Subscription Video On Demand) and International Business at Viacom18 in a press release.

In a previous interview with mintPalia had said the platform would leverage freemium, or a mix of advertising and subscription strategies to drive growth in the Indian market, where it competes with nearly 60 other OTT platforms.

Along with web extensions for its TV properties, Palia said the platform will focus on sports as well as its slate of international programming, thanks to partners like CBS Corporation, which Viacom merged with in 2019.

American movies, TV shows and programs in the Turkish, German and Korean languages ​​- including their dubbed versions – are becoming a big draw on over-the-top (OTT) video streaming services, accounting for up to 30% of the total audience, senior executives from several of these platforms said.

While this international content easily finds takers among young urban Indians in the metros, those in smaller towns benefit from their Hindi and regional language dubbed versions.
