The Bookseller – Rights – HarperCollins Children’s swoops in on Harrison’s young fiction series in three-book deal

HarperCollins Children’s Books has picked up three books in a new ‘dynamic’ young fiction series from Paula Harrison.

Publishing director Michelle Mirsa has acquired worldwide rights to Jodie Hodges’ Fairytale Ninjas series from United Agents. The first book in the series will be published in April 2023, with two more titles to follow. The launch will be supported by a “must-have” public relations and marketing campaign, the publisher said.

The series follows Goldie, Red and Snow, sent by their parents to Glass Slipper Academy, expecting to learn ballet and get ready for a ball. Instead, they find themselves trained in the art of ninja combat. Their teacher, Madame Hart, has a whole closet full of swords and crossbows and soon they are off on their first quest to right wrongs and scare away the bad guys in the fantasy world of Waybeyond.

Misra said, “I had been looking for a young drama series with a strong hook and fantastic business writing for some time, so when this landed on my desk, I couldn’t have been happier. What’s not to like about three ordinary girls, turning fairy tales on their heads? Full of humor and full of adventure, Paula Harrison packs a punch!

Harrison added: “I’m so excited to share the adventures of Red, Goldie and Snow with young readers. These girls aren’t about to sit around eating porridge when they might be defeating trolls and climbing castle walls in their ninja costumes. Michelle understood early on what makes these stories work and having her expertise has been fantastic. I’m thrilled that Fairytale Ninjas have found their way into HarperCollins Children’s Books.
