HBO Max teams up with Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Issa Rae (Unsafe) on two unscripted series, a Project Greenlight reboot and Sweet Life: Los Angeles.

Green light of the project has an eight-episode order and is billed as a reinvention of the critically-acclaimed Miramax and HBO docuseries. The original show was produced by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck and ran for four seasons. The show aired on HBO in 2001-03, upgrading to Bravo for one season in 2005, before returning for its final season on HBO in 2015.

The restarted Green light of the project will focus on the next generation of female directors who will have the chance to direct a feature film. Rae (pictured) will appear in each episode as an executive producer, providing guidance and mentorship to these budding filmmakers. The finished film will then be broadcast on HBO Max.

Green light of the project is produced by Hoorae, Rae’s media company, and Miramax. The series is produced by Rae and Montrel McKay via Hoorae, with Jonathan Berry and Dave Becky via 3 Arts Entertainment. Amanda Klein, Senior Vice President of Development, leads the Miramax TV project. Sara Rastogi is co-executive producer via Hoorae.

The second series, Sweet Life: Los Angeles, follows a group of ambitious young black friends showcasing their relatable, authentic and sometimes stumbling moments in the mid-20s as they embrace the joy and struggles of love and family, all while building their careers as taste makers and influencers in the city where they grew up.

“We are so proud to present a grounded and fun slice of life from young Black LA. We hope that HBO Max audiences identify with and fall in love with this group of friends as much as we did, ”Rae said in a statement.

Sweet Life: Los Angeles is produced by Hoorae; Main Event Media, an All3Media America Company; and photos of morning dew. Issa Rae, Montrel McKay, Jimmy Fox, Sheri Maroufkhani, Leola Westbrook and Sun de Graaf are the executive producers. Rajah Ahmed and Pyongson “Sunny” Yim are co-executive producers. Sara Rastogi and Ashley Calloway are producers.
